Building the flightcase, Pt. 2
After 2 weeks of waiting, the parts finally arrived.
Since the pre-laminated wood is very hard and it has to fit perfectly, I didn’t want to cut it myself. I asked a friend of mine who has a table saw and he wanted to cut it so that was covered. While I was waiting I decided to cut the rack frames. 8U high.
A week later I got the wood back, all the pieces cut nicely.
Now that all the parts were ready, I couldn’t wait to start assembling the box. First I glued and nailed the 4 sides together to create the tunnel.
Then the top and the bottom lids.
And then, I had to wait again…. Actually most of the time spent until now has been waiting..

The box needs some awesome logo on it. And i still think the server will get to hot. Also why are all the beer crates still full if you have to wait so much? :D

We will see about the temperature :) And the beer, is campzone beer :( can’t touch it.

I don’t think the server will be to hot because of the air flow all you have to do is keep open the front and back.
And don’t spill beer on it :)

About the logo, I wanted to add some cool text in the real flightcase font like this but the letter templates are too expensive and I can’t think of something cool at the moment. Except for izerion, maybe I put that on it.
Oh and spilling beer is stupid anyway so don’t worry :)

Nice to see more progres. I do think the server temp wil rise to the point of almost to hot. servers are ment for datacenters with airco. not for flightcases. but no fan hol on the side wil fix that.

I just checked the temps, and the disks in the storage array are only 31 degrees. So I still thing there is nothing to worry about.

The text is not so expensive as you think just get the font from the net print it out on paper cut it en transfer it to carbon and cut it also take some paint and brush it on. I can help you if you want :)

Hi Neil,
I used 10mm prelaminated plywood. I wouldn’t use less thick wood. You can also use standard plywood and paint or laminate it yourself. But laminated is a lot stronger and better protected against scratches.
I’d like to see some pictures when you finished it. Good luck!
